My Background

IMG_0352.jpeg

I became interested in practicing massage in my early 20’s after being the recipient of bodywork for over a year. While I had always been an athlete, massage helped me to feel more at home and at ease inside my body. Wanting to offer this experience to others, I attended  The Massage Institute of New England and, after graduating in 1996, I began practicing massage in Newburyport.  In 2008 I also began to work in at Anna Jaques Hospital in their physical therapy clinic as an aide where I worked for 12 years.

Along with recently opening my own massage practice, I am currently enrolled at Antioch University in their Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I am specifically interested in the intersection of body and mind as it relates to our overall feeling of wellbeing. As I learn more about the complexity of the nervous system, I am excited to discover the agency we have in learning to regulate it for ourselves. Tense muscles, increased heart rate, feeling numb, and an over-active mind are all examples of automatic responses to stress. Massage is a powerful and effective tool to help regulate this response.

When I am not working or studying, I enjoy jogging, reading, excursions in nature, drumming, meditating, cooking, being in or near the water, and being with friends and family.

My Approach

I am trained in Swedish and Deep Tissue massage. Treatments will use a combination of these directed towards meeting your specific needs and goals.
